In this series we are featuring some amazing images from TYCH photographers.

Number three in the series is Jimmy Sert from South Korea.
If you like his images there are plenty more to inspire you on his instagram @mih0zu. I think it’s fair to say the Jimmy is a half frame fan, with lots of great examples on his feed. He has even started a bit of a trend with the hashtag #halfframechronicles.

What film do you like to shoot with?
I shoot almost mainly black and white now, and I love a lot of different Ilford stock film, but for half-frame specifically I really enjoy Ilford Fp4+ as I can shoot it at 200iso for the little speed boost while still keeping the grain not too coarse (mainly develop it in rodinal).

What do you like about the TYCH?
I’ve been shooting a lot of half-frame with namely the Olympus PenS (great to have all controls on the lens) and the Canon Demi (with the fast to use coupled aperture/speed system). So I was super excited when the Tych was announced.
In usage I really like the auto-exposure mode which I find very accurate in all light situations (picture 1 and 3, though quite different lighting, are both very well exposed. But having the option to manually control the shutter speed is also obviously a major plus.
Adding the form factor and lightness (just keep it in your pocket all day long), it’s very nice for snapping in the street (see picture 2), and with some usage it’s not difficult to avoid shakiness blur even with low shutter speeds (see picture 3).
The ability to change lens with a quick gesture is also very nice, I’ve been using only the premium and the meniscus lens, the premium one having quite a detailed render (see picture 1), and the meniscus having it’s own unique charm (see picture 2).
Overall the Tych is a super compact, fun to use, with manual control if needed, and with different options of rendering camera.

Which of your 3 images is your favourite and why?
I like the first one a lot. It relates to my personal search and taste for contrast in a broad sense. It was shot in auto-exposure mode and I was quite astonished by the tonality I got on the negative, that was quite a great surprise.
Lovely images Jimmy, thank you for sharing. We especially like the light captured in image 3, very atmospheric and then you notice the ghost in the image fantastic :-). It reminds me of wandering the streets of South Korea at night trying to clear my head of a little too much soju.
